Notes from Underground

There's a new translation of Dostoyevsky's Notes from Underground out. It's in the beautifully bound Everyman Library, which is an added bonus. There's a review of it from Salon here—overall it's a good review, and I'll certainly buy the new translation. But it seems very strange to me that the author of the review thinks it only evident on the new translation that Dostoyevsky doesn't actually identify with the protagonist. He also mustn't have much of a sense of humour, if he thinks that only on this new translation does it have "even some sardonic humour"—I found even the most stilted translation funny all the way through…
